Arthur Rimbaud, born on the 20th of october 1854, second son of military man Frédéric Rimbaud and Marie Catherine Vitalie Cuif. Rimbaud sent his works to several authors, to which only Verlaine replied. Verlaine later described him as having “the real head of a child, chubby and fresh, on a big, bony rather clumsy body of a still-growing adolescent, and whose voice, with a very strong Ardennes accent, that was almost a dialect, had highs and lows as if it were breaking.”
The two were rumoured of having an affair.
Verlaine was later sent to prison for attempting murder on Rimbaud by firing two shots at him, one wounding his wrist.
He wrote all his works while in his late teens and gave up creative writing before the age of 20, writing in a letter to Paul Demeny« Car Je est un autre. Si le cuivre s’éveille clairon, il n’y a rien de sa faute » (“Because I is another. If the brass wakes the Clarion, it is not its fault.”).
Dies at the age of 37 of cancer after a series of mistaken diagnosis, leading to an amputation and failed treatments, on the 10th of November 1891, in Marseille.
