Hollow Cast Bronze Depiction of a Priest
Etruscan
c. 2nd Century BC
In his left hand, the priest holds an incense box, and, in his right hand, a “phiale” (shallow bowl) used to pour ritual liquid offerings. His twisting pose, long hair, and expressive face are strongly influenced by Greek Hellenistic style. The leafy crown was worn by an official when making a votive sacrifice.
